影片《生命之海》是1995上映的一部反映大海的纪录片，它描绘了大海的美丽壮观、变化多样以及对地球生命的重要。《生命之海》拍摄于世界各地的海洋，反映了我们人类与环境之间复杂而脆弱的相互关系。曾获得奥斯卡金像奖的著名演员梅丽尔.斯特丽普主演该片；格莱美大奖获得者，著名的警察乐队主歌手“斯汀”为该片配乐。此外这部40分钟的影片，也是导演格雷戈.麦季理斐 “MacGillivray Freeman Films”电影制片公司奉献的第16部IMAX电影。

海洋占据了地球表面的70%，平均深度约2英里。我们人类所依赖的大海，产生了地球上绝大部分的氧气，并吸收二氧化碳。事实上，人类就像水里的鱼一样，依赖于大海。《生命之海》运用强有力的影像手段描绘了未遭受破坏的原生态海洋之美，以及人们试图通过各种科学手段，努力恢复海洋环境之希望。

THE LIVING SEA celebrates the world ocean—its beauty, diversity _and importance to life on earth. Filmed in locations around the world, THE LIVING SEA also explores our relationship with this complex _and fragile environment. Featuring music by Grammy-winning artist, Sting, this 40-minute motion picture is MacGillivray Freeman Films’ 16th offering to the international market of IMAX/OMNIMAX® theatres. 
The ocean covers more than 70% of the earth's surface, with an average depth of two miles. We depend on the sea to produce most of our planet's oxygen _and absorb carbon dioxide. In fact, we are as dependent on the health of the ocean as the fish that swim in it. THE LIVING SEA uses powerful images of the beauty of unspoiled healthy oceans _and the hope for recovery engendered by productive scientific endeavors.
THE LIVING SEA draws parallels between scientists who are seeking to learn about the sea _and its ecosystems, thus helping to restore _and protect its balance _and the isl_anders of Palau, with their lore _and traditions of respect for the life-giving waters _and the reefs which provide their sustenance. All of us, the world over, are dependent upon the health of the sea.
