 　　1. a horse of a different color 完全是另一回事

 　　该习语从字面意思来解释就是"勒住你的马，停足不走"。这个习语是19世纪马匹作为重要交通工具时的一个口令，用来要求赶马的停下他的那些马匹。但现在被广泛应用在各种场合，其意要求对方忍耐、镇静、别冲动。请看例句： 　　Dad, please hold your horse before you get mad at me... 爸，请你对我发火之前忍耐一下……

5. clothes horse 爱打扮，赶时髦的人

clothes是"衣服的总称"， clothes horse后来是指那种"晾晒衣服的架子"，既然是晾衣架，上面必然会披挂各色各样的衣服，而且人们还时时从晾衣架上取下干的，挂上湿的，也就是说架上的衣服时时在更换。因此，clthes horse作为习语的意思是用来比喻"好穿戴打扮、赶时髦的人"。请看例句： Sally is a real clothes horse. She pays an awful lot for all the new outfits she wears. 萨利是一个很爱赶时髦的人，她把许多钱花在穿戴上。
